This testimonial about the Austere Emergency Care course was provided to us in October, 2024, by Lee Burton.
“Recently I had the opportunity to participate in the Austere Emergency Care (AEC) course through Ragged Edge Solutions, followed by the Australian Tactical Medicine Conference.
Australia has some of the most remote and complex terrain in the world. Many medical providers and their patients face limited resources and long transport times, often from remote airstrips.
The AEC gave insight into the ability to bring forward high-level medical care to a critical patient and provide stabilization for a prolonged time, where there is often limited or no ability for immediate extraction.
Their hands-on, reality-based training was led by knowledgeable and experienced trainers. With an emphasis on getting out there and putting theory to practice, the live role players created an immersive experience highlighting the difficulties of patient care in remote/austere environments.
This course not only taught and sharpened valuable, hard skills but instilled a mentality of how to do more with less. With an emphasis that ‘basic’ life support saves lives.
The AEC course practical scenario provided a challenge, pushing me to the limit of my medical knowledge, and taught the intricacies of team dynamics and resource management. These proved just as important as the medical skills.
The Austere medical community is an asset to all those who provide care in an array of difficult environments. Their training has increased my knowledge of patient care and motivated me to further my studies in this area.
I recommend this course to all levels of providers, especially those in the Industrial Medical Community, such as Mining or Emergency Response.”
